Cres Island is very rich in beautiful nature sites and there is a significant difference between northern and southern part of the island. Steep cliffs and dense oak forests prevail on the north, while southern part is either covered in pastures or barren.There is an unusual natural phenomenon on the island – freshwater lake Vrana. It is interesting that lake water level is lower than the sea level. The legend says there is a castle at the bottom of the lakeTown has a characteristic network of narrow streets which form small squares. In the early 19th century, towers on each side of port entrance were leveled, and in the early 20th century most part of the town walls was brought down. In the old town core, there are remains of walls, three town gates and a round tower on the northwestern side of town, which used to be the highest point of Venetian defense systemYou can see many tourists in restaurants and cafés in Cres in the evening. The treets are filled with people, and shopping in numerous souvenir shops is favorite entertainment for tourists. We haven’t found any original local souvenirs; we leave that to you, since we decided to stick with extra virgin olive oil this time! The upsides of Cres Town are wonderful buildings and facades that take you on a journey to the past, a well organized parking – you won’t be having any problems finding a parking place in Cres, interesting hiking trips and sites all over Cres Island, as well as friendly attitude towards guests with pets. We were won over by wonderful intact natural beauty and Mediterranean charm of Cres Island and we are definitely coming here again.
